Back on schedule!

It's not even noon, and I have already done my Daily HLP #14! It's pretty simple, but I'm getting faster at this.

Daily HLP #13 DONE! I'm caught up!

Technically it's Sunday... but I'm still up late on Saturday night, so I'll call it Saturday. I am caught up on my Daily HLPs. Here is #13:

Gloria's Daily HLP #11 inspired by amazing concert!

I saw Lana Del Rey last night in concert. Fourteenth row. Stunning! Beautiful! GREAT concert! Inspired me to create my Daily Hand Lettered Phrase using her name.

Daily HLP #12

I really like this project! I'm learning so much from just doing it! I hope I can keep it up indefinitely (DAILY). Even if I fall behind, I am catching up. This is yesterday's piece, which I did today. Tonight I'll get caught up and create one more. I'm enjoying working with textures once the type is created. :)

Daily HLP #8: Possible book title for a friend

A friend of mine is writing a book, and after seeing some of my other hand lettered phrases that I've been posting, he asked me to give his book title a shot! I have no idea whether I captured the character he was after, but it was fun to do. I didn't have a chance to talk to him before I did this tonight, but hopefully he will get back to me and let me know if I was close. I am really enjoying this daily project!

Daily Hand Lettered Phrase #7

OK. So I've been doing this for a week.

It's a great exercise, and I think it will continually become more challenging as I start running out of ideas. That's part of the exercise, though. There are SO many different possibilities! This one is a reminder for me to look on the bright side of things.

Daily Hand Lettered Phrase #2

Okay, so I'm a day early. I'm having so much fun doing this!

This is for you, Paul.

This phrase is a song lyric by my wonderful musical partner, Paul Sabuco. The song is called "Like Water," and it is an unbelievably beautiful song. While it's on our play list, we rarely play it. It is very personal to Paul, and he has to be in a certain mood to want to perform it live. Perhaps it will be on the next CD we release!

By the way, we did just release our first CD as Paul & Gloria, entitled LIME DROP. I designed the cover and disc, and the photography was done by our amazingly talented friend and photographer, Della Perrone.

Here is a link where you can purchase it. Apparently it's on backorder at the moment, but that should be very temporary. If you don't want the physical CD, feel free to purchase the digital CD instead. Both through CD Baby:

Thank you for reading!
Please feel free to provide feedback, just say hi, or whatever! :)

Dailyl Hand Lettered Phrase #3

So as I was telling you in my last post, we (Paul & Gloria) just released a CD of our collaboratively written songs. Well, they aren't going to sell themselves!

What better excuse for a hand lettered plug for LIME DROP!

I suppose I should have put the URL on there somewhere... Oh well. We're actually getting pretty searchable. If you just type in paul & gloria on Google, our website is the second item! Not bad. :)

Another really fun little project!!!!
Thanks for reading!

Daily Hand Lettered Phrase #1

I love type. I love hand lettered type. I want to develop some hand lettering skills.

So as I was thinking about this, I remembered that I need to just put one foot in front of the other and do it. Just practice. Continue to let my eyes take in the amazing hand lettered type pieces I find on Pinterest and other places online, and just make a commitment to DO it...to give it a try.

So, I decided to begin a new project. I am going to create and post a hand lettered phrase EVERY DAY. Some days, the phrase might only have two words. Some days it will be a scan of my sketchbook, somewhat sloppy, and so on. Some days it will suck. Some days it might be pleasantly surprising.

Today I'm posting the first one which I created today. I started it last night by simply using black ink on paper. I created a few before settling on this one. I almost posted the sketchbook page, but I decided to put my Illustrator/pen tool skills to work and recreate it as a vector.

Maybe this will become something wonderful in time! I just have to do it.

For short, these will be called: The Daily HLP

Here is The Daily HLP #1, May 19, 2015.
